Over 80 delegates attend free events to increase their insurance knowledge

The requirement

Feedback from previous insurance events highlighted a need to continue to share best practice from industry experts with public sector insurance buyers.

The solution

The Crown Commercial Service and Pro5 organised a further three events in October 2014 with industry experts speaking on key issues impacting the insurance market.

The addition of an event in the Midlands also helped to ensure a wider customer base was able to attend.
The days were developed based on customer and supplier feedback from the events held in April 2014.

Presentations were provided by suppliers on the insurance services agreement; Aon, Arthur J Gallaher, Risk Management Partners and Zurich Municipal covering:

  • Emerging risks: an overview on the emerging risks within the public sector, for example, cyber and the steps being taken to manage these
  • How to get the best property cover: what areas the public sector should be focusing on to get the best cover and price
  • How to get the best out of self-insurance: areas that the public sector should address and prioritise in order to reduce claims and premium
  • How to set a premium: an interactive session where delegates had to step into the shoes of an underwriter to set a premium giving an insight into the process and complexity of setting a competitive and sustainable premium
  • Overview of the insurance services agreement: including background, call-off process, hints and tips for running a further competition and its benefits.

The results

The free events provided an opportunity for representatives from the Crown Commercial Service, Pro5, insurance brokers and insurers and public sector organisations to:

  • Share best practice for example, the importance of pre-market engagement with insurers and what you can do to get best value
  • Network with industry experts and procurement colleagues
  • An open forum for issues to be raised and debated

With over 65 different organisations attending, a broad understanding of market requirements/dynamics were able to be shared with a larger audience. This resulted in the knowledge learnt being incorporated into new further competitions, which is likely to lead to improved offerings from suppliers.
